Watercolors by Marilyn O’Bryant- Curated by the Arts Council of Greater of Kalamazoo, April 1-June30, Borgess   Woodbridge Hills.

“Echo: Jewels on the Wall”- Jewelry by Amy Culp, Maryellen Hains, Jeanette Maxey, Paul Mergen and Bobbie Peters, presented as fine art to hangs on walls, April 1- May 30, Water Street Coffee Joint.

Annual Gwen Frostic School of Art Student Exhibition- Works by students in the visual arts at WMU; judged by Sadashi Inuzuka, ceramic sculptor and faculty from WMU April 3-17, Richmond Center Visual Arts.

“John Link: Recent Paintings,”- Works rooted in Abstract Expressionism April 3-June 13, Richmond Center for Visual Arts, WMU.

Glass art created by West Michigan Glass Society members, - April 4-30, Saniwax Gallery, Park Trades Center, Suite 209. Reception 5-9 p.m.  April 4.                                                                                                 

African Aids art exhibit- Drawings and paintings in various mediums by students from WMU, K-College and Hope College to raise awareness of the AIDS epidemic in Africa and to benefit those suffering. April 4-30, Henderson Castle. Reception 5-9 p.m. April 4.

Tues: Artbreak: “Jazz Casual: Count Basie and John Coltrane”- Two programs from the 1960s series “Jazz Casual” featuring Count Basie  recounting his musical influences and a rare televised appearance by John Coltrane, 12:15 p.m. April 1, KIA.

Tues: Reality Check Series – Discussion about the book “Marley and Me” by John Grogan, 7:30 p.m. April 1, Kalamazoo Public Library.

Tues: Collegium Musicum- Western Michigan University singers and instrumentalists performing works of the Middle Ages and the Baroque period, 8:15 p.m. April 1, Dalton Center Recital Hall, WMU.

Weds: Writer’s Network- Informal discussions with Libby Fischer Hellmann, author of “An Eye For Murder,” and Cara Black, who writes the Aimee Leduc series 11 a.m.  April 2, Kazoo Books.

Opening this week:

All Ears Theatre-Radio theatre presents “Adventures of Danielle Holli: Deal With The Devil,” the story about Hollywood actress Lana Layne, who drowns while filming her last big-screen production,  6 p.m. April 5, First Baptist Church.

“Hollywood Arms,” – Carol Burnett’s autobiographical comedy-drama that salutes her strong-willed grandmother who raised her, presented by the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, 8 p.m. April 4-5, 11-12,18-19; 7:30 p.m. April 10; 2 p.m.

Continuing:

“Assassins”- Stephen Sondheim’s musical of successful assassins and would-be assassins presented by the Whole Art Theatre, 8 p.m. April 5, 11-12, and 18-19. Whole Art Theatre.

“Bart the Temp: A Story of Wall Street”- A new administrative assistant proves to be both helpful and troublesome, presented by the Whole Art Theatre, 11 p.m. April 4-5.

“The Dining Room”- A comedy/drama in which six performers portray an array of diverse characters moving through the room that was once a vital center of family life, presented by the New Vic Theatre, 8:30 p.m. April 4-5, 18-19, 25-26.

“The Foursome”- Comedy about four former college friends who reunite during a spirited game of golf, Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, 8 p.m. April 4-5, 11-12: 7:30 p.m. April 3; 2 p.m. April 6 and 13 Parish Theatre.

“North Star”- The story of parents and children struggling for dignity and humanity in the shadow of racism, presented by Western Michigan University’s Department of Theatre, 8 p.m. April 3-5; 2 p.m. April 6, D. Terry Williams Theatre, Gilmore Theatre Complex.
