DETROIT -- Foreign cars are rapidly losing their luster in the minds of American motorists. According to a new Gallup poll, only six-percent of those surveyed said they'd only consider purchasing a new foreign-branded vehicle. That's a precipitous drop from a year ago, when twice as many people said they would buy only a foreign car.
The sharpest drop for preference for foreign makes is among young people. Currently, only seven-percent of people 18 to 34 years old say they'd consider a foreign car only, compared to 16-percent a year ago. At the same time, Gallup found American brands are not necessarily more popular. The number of people who would buy American-only is essentially flat at 36-percent.
