LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The state House School Aid Appropriations Subcommittee endorsed a Fiscal 2016 budget for K-12 education that increases foundation-allowance funding by 296 million dollars. About 275 million will be shifted from other education areas, including eliminating proposed increases for at-risk students, financially-distressed districts, early literacy and adult education. The full House Appropriations Committee now reviews this spending plan.
Meanwhile, the state House Community Health Appropriations Subcommittee endorsed a Fiscal 2016 budget for the state Department of Community Health that rejects a proposed 180 million-dollar health insurance claims tax increase. Various program cuts were also included in a spending plan that is nearly 128 million dollars more from the state’s General Fund than what Governor Snyder had proposed in his financial blueprint. The full House Appropriations Committee now reviews this budget as the Legislature tackles budget issues this week.
